Protected Species Surveys

Species such as bats, great crested newts and water voles are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and where they may be present on a development site specialist protected species surveys are usually required.

An initial Phase 1 habitat survey may recommend that a protected species survey is performed on the site or the planning authority may ask for a particular survey to be undertaken as a condition attached to the planning application.
